🕌 Morocco Travel Itinerary: 7 to 14 Days of Discovery and Wonder
Planning a trip to Morocco? Whether you’ve got one week or two, I’ve put together an itinerary that blends the magic of the cities, the silence of the desert, and the charm of coastal towns — all based on the journey I would recommend to a friend.
🗓️ How Much Time Do You Need in Morocco?
Morocco is one of those countries where every corner has a story — so whether you have 7 or 14 days, you can absolutely soak in the vibe.
This itinerary works in two ways:
-
If you’ve got 7 days, follow the first week only.
-
If you’ve got 14 days, continue into Week 2.
✈️ Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca – Touchdown & First Taste
-
Land in Casablanca — Morocco’s modern face.
-
Visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most stunning in the world.
-
Have a seaside dinner at La Corniche — I recommend grilled fish or a good tajine to start your culinary journey.
-
Overnight in Casablanca (or head straight to Rabat if you're tight on time).
🏛️ Day 2: Rabat – Morocco’s Elegant Capital
-
A quick train ride or drive brings you to Rabat, full of relaxed elegance.
-
Explore the Kasbah of the Udayas, walk through blue-and-white alleyways.
-
Don’t miss the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
-
Try a mint tea at a local café with ocean views.
-
Overnight in Rabat.
🧱 Day 3: Fes – The Heart of Moroccan History
-
Morning transfer to Fes — the spiritual and cultural soul of Morocco.
-
Dive into the Fes el-Bali medina — get lost (you will, and it’s okay!) in its maze of souks, artisans, and history.
-
Visit the Al Quaraouiyine University and tanneries — take a scarf with you, the smell is real!
-
Overnight in a riad (traditional guesthouse) for a true Fassi experience.
🐪 Day 4–5: Merzouga & The Sahara – Desert Dreams
-
Long drive, but worth it. Head to Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert.
-
Day 4: Arrive and switch to camels for a sunset ride into the dunes.
-
Spend the night in a desert camp — under a sky full of stars.
-
Day 5: Explore nearby Berber villages or try sandboarding, then head toward Dades Valley.
🏞️ Day 6: Dades & Todra Gorges – Nature’s Sculpture
-
Travel through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.
-
Stop at the stunning Todra Gorge — a paradise for climbers and photographers.
-
Chill in a guesthouse surrounded by red cliffs and palm trees.
-
Try Berber pizza if you come across it — trust me.
🏰 Day 7: Aït Ben Haddou & Marrakech – Finale or Midway?
-
Visit the legendary Aït Ben Haddou — the ancient ksar made famous by Game of Thrones and Gladiator.
-
Cross the Tizi n'Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains.
-
Arrive in the buzzing city of Marrakech by evening.
-
If you're on the 7-day plan, spend your final night here and head out the next day.
✨ For Those with 14 Days — Keep Going!
🕌 Day 8–9: Marrakech – Colors, Chaos & Calm
-
Spend a full day exploring: Jemaa el-Fna, Majorelle Garden, Koutoubia Mosque, and the Bahia Palace.
-
Let yourself wander the souks — leather, spices, lamps, and all the magic.
-
In the evening, grab a rooftop dinner overlooking the square as the calls to prayer echo.
-
Optional: Try a hammam (traditional bathhouse) — very local, very relaxing.
🏞️ Day 10: Day Trip to Ourika Valley or Ouzoud Falls
-
Escape the city for the green hills and waterfalls.
-
Ourika is peaceful with river cafés, while Ouzoud has epic waterfalls and wild monkeys.
-
Come back to Marrakech for the night.
🏖️ Day 11–12: Essaouira – Coastal Chill
-
Head to Essaouira, the breezy Atlantic town where the medina meets the sea.
-
Wander the artsy alleys, watch fishermen bring in the catch, and eat the freshest seafood.
-
Optional: Try windsurfing, or just relax with mint tea by the ramparts.
-
Stay overnight — or two — depending on how slow you want to go.
🐐 Day 13: Return Toward Casablanca (Stop by the Goat Trees!)
-
Drive up the coast, maybe spot goats in trees (yes, really).
-
Stop in El Jadida or Oualidia if you want another beachy pause.
-
Head back to Casablanca for your final night.
🎁 Day 14: Departure – Or a Promise to Return
-
Depending on flight time, squeeze in some last-minute shopping or one last glass of orange juice in the sun.
-
Say goodbye to Morocco… for now.
💬 Final Thoughts
Morocco isn’t just a destination — it’s a feeling.
Whether you're sipping tea in a medina, riding a camel across golden dunes, or laughing with locals at a market, it stays with you long after you leave.
